Rural Health service

Description organization

This organization founded in january 2023 with 6 profesional in the medical field joining forces, seeks social justice, community connection and healing for body, mind, spirit and planet by creating space for traditional medicine modalities and broadening access to modern therapies in the Talamanca region of Costa Rica.

Located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica in the Limon province and home to many indigenous communities and a large Afro-Caribbean population, and notoriously underfunded when it comes to healthcare, education, and other public services. Many indigenous communities also face geographical barriers that prevent them from accessing resources. Systemic racism and lack of equal access to public services have resulted in inadequate access to clean drinking water, health insurance and employment; in turn leading to disproportionate poverty, chronic diseases, and poor maternal and child health.

Mission

The organization is dedicated to reversing these statistics through free health fairs, one on one sessions and educational opportunities that center traditional indigenous and afro-descendant healing practices while integrating modern modalities from Costa Rican and international practitioners (depending on legality and licensure).
