Artisanal, organic coffee farm
🌐Description organization
Small farm with coffee production and an educational experience for guests/tourists that want to learn about coffee production
Hidden in the foothills of the Turrialba Volcano, this 10 year old, artisanal Costa Rican coffee farm produces natural, high-altitude, 100% Arabic coffee in harmony with the environment. The altitude of the farm, 1,400 meters, is very beneficial for the growing conditions. The soil is volcanic, and the temperature is ideal. They don't use any pesticides and rather, vegetables and fruits growing on the farm are used as fertilizers.
The small farm is a one-man business in which the community also benefits. Members of the community, mostly elderly women, help picking the berries from the trees and also help in my kitchen to prepare breakfast and lunch for guests. Currently the farm is working on getting the official "Tourism declaration" of the ICT (Costa Rica Tourism Institute), a legal recognition that an activity is part of Costa Rica's tourism sector. Furthermore, it is working on certain accreditations in the field of Organic Agriculture. Another interesting proyect is the experimention with organic fertilizers.
